Colleagues at a Southampton retail store are preparing for a week of fundraising and endurance with different activities taking place every day during Charity Awareness Week.
Southern Co-op’s Southampton City Gateway store will kick off the week on Monday 23 July with colleagues wearing pink in celebration of Southampton Children’s Hospital Charity which is part of Southampton Hospital Charity.
The money raised will go towards the creation of a new children’s emergency and trauma department. This facility will ultimately benefit all the children who require emergency treatment across south central England and the Channel Islands.
On Tuesday and Wednesday [24 and 25 July], colleagues and their families will be taking to two wheels and travelling the distance to 25 local Southern Co-op stores on a static bike thanks to Pure Gym. Stores they will be ‘cycling’ to will include, Southampton, the Isle of Wight, Colden Common, Eastleigh and Fair Oak.
But the fun doesn’t stop there as there will be a whole host of giveaways for a small donation and the team from Southampton Hospital Charity will be in store on Thursday with a children’s art competition.
The store will also be buzzing with activity all weekend with face painting, a cake sale, and even more pink clothing for colleagues at the store.
Dean Millar, Southern Co-op’s Store Manager, said: “Southampton Hospital Charity is close to our hearts and everyone here gets really passionate about raising money and giving back to a cause which helps so many.
“So we would love to see as many people come down as possible and help us to guess the number of sweets in a jar, name the bear and get scribbling for our children’s colouring competition.”
Southampton Hospital Charity is the store’s chosen charity as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.
The Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ addresses four key social themes for promoting: ‘Greener’, ‘Healthier’, ‘Safer’, and ‘More Inclusive’ neighbourhoods.
Southern Co-op stores across the south of England will be holding a range of activities during Charity Awareness Week from 23 to 29 July. To find out more, visit your local store.
